A cheetah mom (right) and two yearling cubs spend some time modeling for our cameras. the fastest mammal on earth, they spend mid-day resting in shady spots.
these common zebras move through the tall grass and i struggle to compose them properly. as bold as the pattern of zebras is to us, they actually do blend in quite nicely in high grass such as this. the herd was hundreds strong, and they slowly picked their way toward us, motionless with cameras ready.
The light had faded for the day. This leopard had made an earlier kill, and we knew to return to this tree to see if he was hunting again. True to leopards, while there was plenty of Thompson's Gazelle in the tree stash, he hunted anyway. In less than 5 minutes, he was dragging another gazelle into this tree to consume.
